Irida is a civil nonprofit organization established in 2016 in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece. We work to protect, empower, and support the most socially and economically vulnerable women, with a special focus on survivors or women at risk of gender-based violence, to become active members of society and fulfill their goals and aspirations.
In the first and sole safe community space for women in Northern Greece, women receive the support they need to address their challenges, find solutions, and achieve long-lasting positive change. Through casework, legal, psychological support, skill-building, and employability services, women have access to space for learning, making responsible decisions for their lives, and pursuing opportunities for personal and professional growth.
In 2024, Irida Women’s Center was awarded the first Vigdis Prize for Women’s Empowerment by PACE and the Government of Iceland amongst 123 candidates worldwide. This prestigious recognition of our work is an extremely proud moment for us, fueling our efforts to continue fighting for a world where no woman is left behind.
