“Combating Gender-Based Violence in Thessaloniki”

SHEchange

“SHEchange” prevents and combats the perceptual cycle of gender-based violence, raises public awareness regarding the multiple forms of gender violence, battles misconceptions, and stereotypes, and contributes to creating a safer and more inclusive local community for all genders in Thessaloniki.

Objectives

  1. Provide Support to 300 women survivors and potential victims of Gender-Based Violence
    • Social Services and Casework.
    • Legal Assistance and Court Representation.
    • Mental Health and Psychological Support.
  2. Increase Public Awareness against Gender-Based Violence
    • Social Media Campaign: “#SheChangeSpeak: Thessaloniki Raises its Voices Against Gender-Based Violence” to counter gender stereotypes and violence and promote inclusivity.
    • Community Engagement through an interactive Call to Action with an online survey to capture public views on consent, leading to a published white paper.
    • Consultations with local actors and civil society.
  3. Develop a network of local businesses to act as temporary safe spots and provide basic assistance
    • Establish a network of 50 local businesses and provide training on how to give basic information and assistance to women who are victims or at risk of gender-based violence, and act as a temporary safe spot until official actors arrive. Participating businesses will display a visible badge identifying them as a safe, secure space for temporary shelter.
    • Deploy the power of social media and printed media to raise awareness about the meaning of the badge and inform the broader community.
